Vehicles in Germany's City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities reported they were notified by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
