Sam Fender has donated the complete sum of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which works to protect the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

He was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role grassroots venues fulfilled in his early career.

"As an artist would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was starting out," remarked the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to help numerous small stages across the UK.

These funds assisted spaces that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges stemming from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in improving amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in large arenas helps the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor funds to good deeds.

In Pulp received the award in the mid-90s for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker stated that the band would donate their winnings to the organization the charity.

In 2002, artist the artist divided her award among a few organizations, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the local youth club that supported their act, as well as other local music groups.

And 1994 winners M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," stated artist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success impacted another person's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had protected a couple of local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in the city and the second in that location were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
